What temp and salinity do you keep in your reef tank?

I keep my tanks at 78.8F and 1.0255-1.026

1.026 & 78F. The salinity of natural sea water and at 78F it gives me a buffer if the tank runs warmer.

1.026 and 78-79. I run Cobalt heaters so they are very stable, the 14g frag tank holds 78 and my 35g reef holds 79. My house is 72 in the summer and 70 in the winter. I'm evaporating a lot right now with gas heat.

Ok, so if Ron Shimek says that the optimal temperature for corals in the ocean is 83-86, and @Randy Holmes-Farley recommends 80-81 as an optimal target that's has some safety benefits... Why are we all keeping our tanks below that in the high 70's?

saw mike paletta at a talk and he said he experimented with lower temps and it helped keeping algae down. It has worked and I definitely dont keep my glass as often.
