The picture doesn't capture this, but these are tiny, like the center spot is the size of a pen tip, total diameter of disk maybe 1mm. This cluster has about 8 polyps and fluoresces green under my new AI Prime HD lights (how I finally spotted them). Way too small and fluorescent for aiptasia, I think, and I know what THEY look like young. :-(
 
Look like aptasia to me but not sure now that your not sure lol. Same exact body style tho

They have a distinct look to them and differ from aptasia. They also tend to grow in clusters IME. We used to literally remove rock and scrape them off due to kalk paste having no effect. They usually have stalks as well.
Oh wow thanks for the description. Yea I have them too on my return plumbing in my sump. What’s the best way to get them off? I’ve attempted manual removal but they always come back. Nowhere in the display, yet..
 
Yeah, after looking up colonial hydroids, that is definitely what they are. They seem innocent enough right now and not near anything important. If that changes, would a filefish or copperband take care of these?
