What the heck is going on here? One second the water is crystal clear. The next it's a complete cloud of white.

No idea what could be happening. It looks like it's still getting worse

Holy my God Jesus noooo.

I just checked an all my alk emptied into the tank. I have no idea how that could've happened
Crap, that’s not good. I would start preparing a couple of large WC’s. Don’t go hog wild though and reduce it to fast since that can be equally as bad.

You're not the first one to experience this. I have seen other threads on here for the same issue, but I can't find them at the moment. Water changes are a good idea. I would also test alk to see where you are at now.

I'm preparing a 25% water change now and can maybe manage another 10 gallons or so to do tonight. I use instant ocean, so the alk is pretty high... Im going to test my alk level right now and reassess what needs to be done.

Do you know if this is going to kill a lot of tank inhabitants?

Sorry water changes are the only safe alternative. What is the pH? I would concentrate on the pH first. You might be able to ramp things down by injecting co2 or add something slightly acidic to slowly ramp things down.

Never had to deal with this before so good luck.

Forget making water all day, go to the lfs or the grocery store and buy a bunch of water so your ready to go on the water changes!

WHITE VINEGAR!!!!!

Start dosing it while you do water changes!!
I was thinking this... But I have too many things going on to be testing the ph now as well. I'm running to the store for water and salt because I'm about to run out. When I get home I'll do another water change and just hope for the best. It's too many moving parts for me to do single handedly at the moment

I had the same thing happen when I was running a kalk stirrer.

Water changes. White vinegar. Didn’t loose anything luckily. Good luck
Okay, so i did 2 20 gallon water changes in my 40 gal tank. Alk came down to 11.2

Im okay with this level. I think I'll dose some vinegar now. I'll dose 20 ml for now.

How much did you dose?

Here's how it's looking now. Some corals are closed up, most aren't closed at all.

Seems like most will make it. Im thinking I'll just leave it and let things go naturally from here. Maybe I'll add a bit more vinegar later on tonight, but probably won't do any more water changes.

I'll just keep my calcium dosing the same, obviously stop dosing alk until I get down to the mid 8s, and I'll keep my trace dosing on the same schedule.

Any suggestions?
