It started with my yellow tang. He was sick off and on for four weeks before he died. I posted a photo and someone suggested HLLE. My lfs said the same thing. We tested the voltage (.03) and I haven't been running carbon. Water tested great and he was eating. I pulled him out and put him in QT. He died a few days ago.
Just before he died, my Anthias started acting goofy. One started with what I thought was Popeye and then he lost most of his coloration. He starting hanging out in the rocks all day long. I've had the Anthias for months. Now they are all super pale and they lay on the rocks all day long. They are still alive.
Last night, I noticed both of my clown fish who I have had from day one and over seven months, had "chunks" taken out of their white stripes. It looks like they are missing sections of their scales. They are eating fine and act as they always do.
I'm worried that this isn't HLLE and something else. I replaced the heater which was triggering the stray voltage -- as small as it was. And I'm not using carbon. What else would trigger sick fish after all these months? With different symptoms? I'm at a loss. My tank is clean, I use RO water, and I do a water change every Friday. I'm doing my best. I don't even know what to treat the fish with because I don't know how or why they are sick. Ideas?
