So, for the first time, I decided to look in my tank at night with a flash light. Everything seemed normal, as far as my limited knowledge tells me, but I noticed something on a new zoa frag, the one that came with the plague starfish, asternia or something like that. In the picture it is between the second polyp from the left and the white crystal looking stuff on the frag plug. It is green in color with possibly red zig zags on it. Best I can do with an iPhone camera. Also while looking at that I noticed small lice like bugs on the live rock. Not sure if that should be a concern or just brine shrimp hatching? I've noticed a few frozen brine shrimp with egg sacks on them but not sure if they're hatch able since they've been frozen.

Any help is always appreciated.

i agree with the above question.. do you notice anything weird with your zoas? and the lice are probably amphipods or copepods most likely amphipods they are no worry to the tank, they eat detritus and can feed corals and fish ect...

The zoas are open all day swaying in the current of the power heads and looking great.

Thats interesting i would pull him out just to see what he is, mainly because im curious, but how long has the animal been showing up on your zoas?

I just noticed it tonight. I bought the frag yesterday, Wednesday. My thought is maybe it's glued on there? Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be bothering the zoas at all. Let me see if I can get a good picture...please hold...

Best I can do at this time. Such a funky pattern on it too.

hmmm.. is it in a shell??? or is it like a slug? if its sluggish it could be a nudibranch that eats zoas..

To me it looks like a shell of some type. The picture showing top view of the polyps, not the in tank shot, was supposed to show how it looks like a shell, but lighting sucks and wasn't a very clear shot. Also the side view looks like a pattern you would see on a shell with the lines and separations.

he's talking about the green part under the zoanthid.. and i would observe it maybe and see what it does?

I'm starting to think its a clam maybe...when I looked this morning it appeared to be open slightly, but closed as the light was on it.

I'm seeing a little bivalve. Grab it and pull it off with your fingers and maybe take more pictures.

I'll try, but going to be hard because it is so close to the zoas and I don't want them to pop off the frag

Pulled it off with tweezers. It's definitely a shell of some sort. It should be safe right?

I pulled one of these off the bottom of a wellso the other day. I just tossed it because I wasnt sure what it was...seemed the like best course of action at the time haha
I do know that I have a few bivalves in my nem tank though. Ive just never seen a green one until that point.

As I've been messing with this thing a little bug like creature came out. It's got antennae and around 6 legs totsl
