what the heck is that ?

Only way I can describe this thing is it looks identical to a spider egg (white cotton look) and on the end of it there seems to be what looks similar to a feather duster. Are these a pest in reef tank world?

Yeah pineapple sponge, good for filtering out the water. If you pull the rock out of water they will die.

I just had a semi tank crash which a couple of my nice corals seem to be dying the others are bouncing back , I'm not really gonna pull rocks out just want my stable tank back which I'm pretty sure I'll get there. I've read how it takes a long time for corals to bounce back after a crash and I know what they mean now, but super sad to see a couple of them go

That really sucks , stick with it. I fought through bryopsis and cyano and think I finally won. Takes time sometimes.
