What the heck is this?? Killing off SPS?

Hey everyone. I'm attaching some pictures, and a quick video of this stuff that's on only 1 piece of live rock in my tank. I"ve have the tank running for a year now, and what I thought was originally a sponge is starting to look really really strange.

All of my zoas and LPS corals are doing fine, however over the past 2 months, my 9 sps corals have slowly been dying on the whole (down to only 4 SPS now). I also know the SPS came in good an heathy as the most recent ones were all from @Battlecorals

As mentioned, these white growths almost look like glue or epoxy in this one piece of live rock, and it's pretty much over the ENTIRE rock. I currently do not have any corals on this rock, and I do have some spare BRS reef saver rock...so my thought is to simply take this rock out, toss it, and start with a fresh big BRS piece.

Please let me know what you guys think this is, and if you think it might be killing off my corals. I'm not sure if this is a safe sponge anymore (all livestock, fish, hermits, snails, urchin, and blood shrimp are doing just fine.

Any suggestions are MUCH appreciated!

This is a fairly large rock with a big hole in the center, and this "white stuff" is everywhere on the inside.

Also are you carbon dosing? It almost looks like bacteria to me.

Its some kind of sponge and my guess is its not killing your SPS. There is something else.

No carbon dosing. I do a waterchange every 2 weeks (5 gallons on a 29 gallon biocube). I run my skimmer nightly from about 10pm-7am.

My forest fire digi, garf bonsai, orange tip stage and tri-color SPS are doing great and growing really well.

I just really noticed all this growth last night when lights went out and started wondering if I should pull that rock...

So this rock should be of no concern...just leave it alone?

its tunicate (or may be sponge). Not a threat to any inhabitants in your tank. Your SPS die off is kinda common for new comers, specially those who are starting with sps first time. Check your light, flow (make them strong) and chemistry (make them perfect ) . Acros in particular will need few more stuff (Alk and Ca supplement often times)

I do have pretty high flow in he tank, especially where the SPS are, and I've got my Kessil 160 cranked up to about 90% at 60% color (towards the white spectrum).

Thanks for letting me know that rocks not killing the tank. I'll attibute the SPS die off to just a young tank that still has some maturing to do! Thankfully I've got 4 SPS going strong though!

for lights, acros need slower acllimation, but stronger light in the long run. I'll say start a new thread on sps with tank details and we all can chime in

Sponge for sure not going to kill SPS you have another whole issue with water parameter stability that is causing your SPS form surviving.

Yup leave it. There must be other concerns which is killing your SPS.
