So, I think I have a Calothrix outbreak in my tank, but I want to be sure before I move forward with treating. See below for a video of 1 area of the tank to see what recently popped up...

A little about my tank, it was started at the beginning of 2020 with dry rock and bare bottom. Parameters are solid, only thing that is lower than I would like is pH.

ALK - 8.4
Calcium - 480
Magnesium - 1440
Phosphate - .15

As for when this showed up, I saw a little bit of fuzzy looking algae on the rocks in certain areas, so I added some Dr. Tim’s Waste Away to take care of it and that is when it took off more and started looking more like potential dino’s (loosely attached and stringy).

What are your thoughts? What should I do?

What are your nitrates at?

I haven’t checked my nitrates in a bit, but I’ll check and report back.

Are you carbon dosing?

No and yes... ha ha. I’m not carbon dosing, but I am using Tropic Marin’s All for Reef, which is an extremely low grade carbon dosing. From everything I’ve read, it really isn’t carbon dosing but in the very slightest way.

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE A REEFING EXAM, WOULD YOU PASS?
