Ok...I feel crazy posting this but it happened. I recently got to a point with my tank that it was time to get serious with corals. I have a 210 gallon tank that feeds trough a wall...via 11/2" PVC and into a 55 gallon tank: 1st changer in an octopus protein skimmer for a 300 gallon tank; leading to the next chamber are two layers of thick cloth or gausse...don't recall what they call it...next chamber is what I would cam the actual refuguim (this tank only has 20 of ocean mud, crushed coral, lava rock, and ceramic balls and squares. the larger tank will have 40 lbs of actual ocean mud...maybe a section for specific plants; the third tank is the return. This section is running at about 2000 GPH.
The tank was set up March, 2019 and has had a number of fish; some have come and gone. However, the fish that seem to survive are: 2 clowns, 1 snowflake; Large and very aggressive sail-fin Tang (I have never seen a tank like this): Takes chunks out of a slightly smaller Emperor angel (juvenile); and a Niger Trigger,, which hides in the rocks; although hes much smaller than my assassin tang. Oh and a little blue chromis...the other four have disappeared along with a blood shrimp. Oh...a sally light foot.
The water is always perfect and a 10% present change is done every month; very boring weekly test. the only other thing that has been added was purple Arcreef coraline algae and some pink for contrast. .
Lighting is provided by 4 kessells set up on a day timer: Dawn, Noon, and Dusk...II think two other settings are involved. Moreover, I have 4 T-5 bulbs to augment the LEds'...4 hours a day...near the tank's noon...not mine. Lights for me come on at 9:00 AM but thats the tank's dawn lights.
Prior to this decision, I had some Green Star Polyp in the tank...but that was it. However, I recently added about $$1,400 in corals...different sizes and when the deal was done I had about 18 corals...give or take.
The other day I noticed the the right back side of my tank...ext to an anemone as a coral that my fish guy had thrown in...it was neon green...and had arms flowing around like the anemone but the size of a small coral. Today it was gone, but right where is had been was a cross like structure...any ideas?
