Zebrasoma scopas and zebrasoma rostratum
Ummmm, I was actually agreeing with you and explaining that to another member???ummm, yes I am aware. I am referring to name rather than classification. Having 14 tangs in my tank and 30+ years,,,, I'm aware.
Zebrasoma refers to Many varieties of surgeonfish ( yellow, gem, freckled, purple, sailfin and the list goes on) Here are my many tangs:

No worries, I love you tank BTW. It's an inspiration. I'd love to have a large reef one day. Our favorite fish are tangs. That's one of the amazing things about this hobby, always something new to learn.LOL- I know. Was adding my two cents as many are not aware of how large the group is. That's why I added a pic as all mine are in this category. They are the easiest yet the most aggressive of surgeonfish, After 30 years, I still learn something new once a week.

You specifically used the scientific term "genus" for scopas. This isn't correct and there isn't room for argument here.
There aren't many varieties of Zebrasoma. There are seven, and freckled isn't one of them. Again, there isn't room for argument here.
Nothing personal, I just want folks to have the correct information.
Yeah they do not often know their fish...got a Kole Eye tang from them last year for <$20! He was a nice 3" fish and I had just stopped in for dog food. They really didn't even know what he was...I had to tell them and pull up a pic from Live Aquaria to confirm it for them. Then they looked him up and were like yeah he's a tiny one (at three inches) and marked him at like $19.99....I got him in my QT and kept him with Cupermine for about 4.5 weeks and he turned out fine! Was one of the main harrasers of my Orange Shoulder/Tonnami Tang I added last month....the two now get along swimmingly.Could you imagine finding a Gem tang at petco? That would be epic!
Yes sometimes some good finds at PetCo!Which definition are you using? There still has to be a delineation between them. If you are referring to tangs in general, the use of group or family would be more accurate and clear rather than muddling things.genus
noun, plural gen·e·ra [jen-er-uh] /ˈdʒɛn ər ə/, ge·nus·es.
- Biology. the usual major subdivision of a family or subfamily in the classification of organisms, usually consisting of more than one species.
- Logic. a class or group of individuals, or of species of individuals.
- a kind; sort; class.
When I was working at a petco in college we received a mimic octopus marked as a flame angle. They frequently get things they are unsure of what they are or are sent on accident. This frequently leads to fish demise but can be an opportunity for experienced reefers with a keen eye.Yeah they do not often know their fish...got a Kole Eye tang from them last year for <$20! Looking better and better each day, also more yellow. I think I can confirm he is a normal scopus maybe a little darker than usual but I do not think he is a hybrid. What do you think he is. I have an idea but I want to see what people think before I tarnish the results.
After I get a few responses I'll tell you what he was sold as and where I got him.
Some of the marks are from the shop he was getting beat up good when I found him.![]()

; sort of). In scientific nomenclature, 'genus is the principal taxonomic category that ranks above species and below family, and is denoted by a capitalized Latin name'. In general or common use I suppose lots of terms can get misused
. There are 7 of them (6 if you think the two sailfins are just regional variants).Gem tang.
