So earlier today, one of my torch corals looked fine. Tonight it looks like this.

What is going on?

Unfortunately, based on the picture looks like that head is definitely dead/dying. Fingers crossed it's only the single head. Based on the picture alone couldn't tell you exactly why it happened to cause it. I had the same thing happen to a part of my hammer. I ended up sucking off the white so there was no brown jelly, but I'm not sure if that's the "right" thing to do.

I had a short tentacle white torch get stung and died from my ausie gold torch... But this one is off by itself. So weird. It has been doing great for 4 months.

I should add, I am going off the fact that it looks like white jelly like material in the picture. If it is something other than that, disregard my previous comment.

Just snapped a better pic.

Looks like the head next to it is starting to get it.

Yeah, definitely looks like a goner to me. Hard to tell with the one on the right. Definitely doesn't have good tissue growth, especially compared to the one on the left, which looks great. Could just mean it hasn't grown as much, not that it's dying. I'm not expert, but if it was me, which means overly cautious, I would suck off what's in the head and maybe dip if you have like a Revive or Coral Rx around. May also not be a bad idea to cut off the head, but as long as you get the head clean, I think that would at least be a good start. Just my few cents though.

That is brown jelly disease. It is a bacteria infection. Cut off the inflicted heads and quick. Be sure to turn off all the flow in the system and remove it very carefully. It can wipe out a system of LPS in days. If you cut the heads off and remove you can stop it from spreading.

I had the same problem with a few of my torches and after testing I found that my cal and alk was low and unstable. I started daily dosing and weekly testing and now all my torches are doing great.

Calc and alk are good. I have a reef octopus kalkwasser. Test it every other day.

Sounds like a good step. Better safe than sorry. Honestly I wish I could offer more of a suggestions as to why. It is a bit strange that it happened randomly. Usually there is a reason. When my hammer had it, it was a result of shipping damage. Again, hopefully it's just the single head and doesn't spread. Good luck!

Lets hope!! Thanks for the help!

Same thing happened to my green and orange wall hammer, happened so quick had these two for more than a year. Both died because of this white goo. Then it started on my branching hammer after a few days, could not figure it out, then one night after observing the tank for at least two hours, I saw one of my finger leather coral across the tank started closing up and after 30 minutes started like the skin was coming off, like a wax. This wax thing floated in the tank and where my huge colony of branching hammers on the other side of the tank, the floating wax landed on one of the head, the hammer closed up and the next morning a white blob of goo covered up the head and that branch died. couple more branches nearby got affected and those branches died also. I removed all of the leathers in my tank and that stopped the white blob of death on my hammer colony. Is this what they call coral wars???

Funny you say that. My leather toadstool just went through that. It had been closed up and shinny for a couple of days. Released a silky coat and came back out and looks fine. Then this happened.
