Other than a generator what do you do. I have a battery operated air pump but other than that I feel I am a little under prepared.

At the very least you can get a power inverter. You can run extension cords out to your inverter connected to your running automobile, or bring a car battery inside to power some of your tank stuff off of the inverter. Hydrogen peroxide can be added to your tank if oxygen is needed in the tank. 1 ml per 10 gallons of water is the same dosage that I have used to treat dinoflagellates.

Good point on the inverter I have a 750watt one problem salved that will run the entire tank as if nothing happened.

An 800 watt power inverter and extension cord will cost about as much as one high end coral. It can run your whole reef tank. Unless you have a huge reef tank in which case you better have generator.

On a power inverter do a test before you rely on it, I have a 400w in my truck and it will charge my laptop BUT if I plug in a phone charger it shuts down and it is a better quality one so just make sure you test before you rely on it I have 400 total water volume and I have a 2000 w generator all I plan on it is power heads and heater you can live without lights for days usually! maybe rotate back and forth if you feel necessary

i have a series of batteries I keep on a solar charger and a Genny if you have a jebao like most now a days you can put the tunze safety supply on the batt so when the power goes out the batt power keeps the pump running take a bit of electrical know how to wire of the jebao just fyi

Mine is out of a military ambulance and has ran key cutting machines for hours at a time.

With the amount we have invested in our 150g main tank, ,we bought a good used generator. We have had our power go out a couple of times due to a storm and power grid shut down.
And we hook up the main pump, heater and some of the lights.

We and so hook up our frag tank to keep it ruining during the outage.

To much money to lose...

Generator best thing I ever bought
Plus runs the tanks and the house
Wife is happy too

I have battery operated air pumps. I figure I could always warm up water if needed with the stove. I have looked into propane generators but haven't make the investment yet. Whole house generator is the best option.

I got a small generator from harbor freight for $80. Runs my pumps and heaters and that's all I care about. You just need to be sure you get home in time.

I just wrap my 85 gallon with a couple blankets because the power usually comes back on in a few hours. After that, I have a good relationship with my LFS and I can always "kennel" them there for a couple days.

I like the idea of a small generator, looking into getting one.

Awesome

I've long thought about what I would do and have been lucky these past two years, not not going to go on luck any longer especially with our frag tank. We're getting a 20kwh whole home generator installed next month. I'll have a 10-12 second power outage and the tank is back up and running. Bring it on power outages!

Inverter is nice I have one on my boat for coffee maker and microwave but at home generator is the only way to go.
