I have a 70 gallon tank that I'm using as a QT. I just recently finished a 76 day fallow on my DT and I've emptied out my QT since the fish were transferred to the DT. I'm looking for feedback on next steps for the QT.
Here's what I did:
1) Emptied all water from the QT
2) Cleaned all equipment and scrubbed the tank to eliminate anything that may have been left over from the medications/copper etc.
3) Refilled the tank with fresh saltwater
4) Inserted a sponge that was soaking in my sump from another DT for biological filter to avoid the tank cycling.
Once this was done, I added Seachem Stability to assist with the biological filter. I then added new fish to the QT.
After day 2 of QT, by ammonia badge shows the presence of ammonia. I'm now treating with Prime every 48 hours and Stability every day to ensure I don't begin losing fish.
In summary, I'm looking for feedback on my procedure. Did I miss something? Is it normal to see an ammonia spike when doing this? Should I not have emptied the tank completely?
