What to do with cords and DIY Mesh Lid?

I've purchased a DIY Mesh lid kit and I currently have a fluval evo 13.5. I have two koralia pumps so I have two cords coming out of the tank, how should I cut the lid size to allow the cords to go out of the tank? What do people usually do? Do they cut the lid shorter or do they cut a hole through the mesh?

Typically they will notch out a space in the edge of the frame large enough to let the cord pass through between the frame and the edge of the tank. This makes removing the mesh lid easy and doesn't require you messing with the cords to do so.

I made my own mesh lid and notched one corner where my pump wire is coming out

Nice, I like the hole in the middle too. Turns out the kit I bought for screen mesh lid has tearable plastic on the edges that you can remove to put wires through... so it wasn't a problem at all.
