My lfs has a used Red Sea Reefer 170 for $500 this weekend, and I’m going to try and get it. It has the stand and sump with it. It has a total of 43 gallons, including the sump. Is 43 gallons too much for the things like cal.
and alk. to be replenished with water changes( would a doser be necessary to keep higher end corals?) if I get it, I’m up for suggestions as to what I should stock it with.

I bought my daughter the RSM E-170 and we do weekly water changes, and the corals in it are growing great. $500 for that tank is a STEAL! I'd jump on it.

If you want I am running an sps dominate reefer 170 in my build thread. I am currently dosing 12 ml of cal and alk a day

I have a reefer 170, dosing 7ml/day esv alkalinity to stay at 9 dKh. All that is in it are some frags, tank is still young.

Doser would be nice to have so you can spread it out through the day.

Sounds like a good deal!
