OK, I did all of my research about how to set up my aquarium. I researched what would go well together in my aquarium and waited as patiently as I could to add my corals and my clowns. Now that all is good and travelling smoothly and I'm enjoying the start of another side to my aquarium hobby I have had a strange thought pop up.

What do I feed my corals? With fish you can easily find information about the type of food the eat and how often to feed, but where can I find out what, when and how to feed my corals? I have (I'm pretty sure) a Duncan, Zoas a Palm Tree or Feather Palm? and another one I call Bruce. (I'll add pic's below)

The last one is little star shaped flower type. Most of them have gone to bed for the night now.

If you try and research each individual species on the internet, you should be able to find information on which coral needs what. If you still can't find anything, go back to the LFS where you bought 'em and ask there.
Hope this helps :]

Pic #2 is a pest anemone called aiptasia anemone and will kill off other coral so get rid of them properly or they will spread like a wild fire

What he said. Sorry but Bruce needs to die. Buy a couple peppermint shrimps.

Most corals do not need to be fed, they get it from the lights and fish poop. :)

Oh no! Pic 2 is the little ones that came on the rock. Pick 3 is Bruce- the lovely spreading greenly blob one. How do I kill off the other ones that I was so excited to find. :(

You kill it with hot water sprayed into it's mouth
Or
Clog it with coral epoxy
Or
Use peppermint shrimps
Or
Use aiptasiaX

The blob (lol) is a cynarina :)

If you don't plan on having anemones or feather dusters, buy a copperband butterfly fish. It's one of their fav meals! Peppermint shrimp will eat them too just not as fast.
Chemicals (aiptasia X) are your last option and make sure you fallow the directions exactly or you can kill your tank or make the ***** (what I call aiptasia) spread. If you are going to use chems, try to use it outside of your DT like a bowl or bucket if the rock isn't too big

Although copperband will eat the aiptasia, it won't however eat the whole anemone. That's how he keeps 'em coming. You may result in even bigger amount of aiptasia.
When I found aiptasia in my DT, I covered it with aquamend (coral epoxy). It was buried alive lol. Never saw another one for the past six months or so.

I don't feed mine anything directly. I dose phyto for my pods and stuff and they might get some of that. The mostly use light and filter out micronutrients. Just do regular water changes and provide a good light source. You should be fine. I took the accessible rock out and cleaned them off with hot water hoter and a wire brush. Make sure you get it all. On the one that was inaccessible, I used pure fresh lemon juice. I puked him with a needle and fill him up from the inside out and then sprayed around him. Good luck and please research all livestock(verts, inverts(including coral)) before you buy them. Otherwise, you are putting them at risk for harm or death. Good luck with your tank.

Thanks for all the advice. I love what I have in there so far and I am being extremely (for me) patient. I got some freebie fish, live rock and a leather coral. The only one I kept was the leather coral even thought the fish were stunning. Wish I could find a locally based forum like this. You guys are awesome. Was going to say you rock but thought that was a pretty tacky pun :)

It sure eats the whole thing! Peppermint shrimp don't. They might spread it before keeping it under control
As for covering them with glue, it does work as long as the hole they are in is a dead end and most aren't.

I had to use aipastia x on some last night there was this Zoa rock i got for free and it was covered in them in between the zoas. I just turned off my power heads and blasted away made sure the needle provided was on the platform head and shot a lil on each they havnt popped back up like they normally do. The rock been in the tank for 4 days but my peppermint shimp hadnt ate them the way they did the ones that came as hitchhikers on my live rock. Glad i had a remaining bottle left from a previous setup

I did that as a newbie and killed off half my fish. This was at least 7-8yrs ago

We'll my tank right now is a no go zone. :( the leather coral I got I think was dying when I got it and it nearly destroyed my tank. My LFS is babysitting my clownfish And my corals (hopefully the corals aren't too far gone) until my tank parameters are back to normal. Great start to the hobby :(
