Hi!
Thanks in advance for any tips and your input.

I am moving my nano tank from a ten gallon to a twenty (yay!). My question is, once the new tank has cycled, who do I move first? Fish? Corals? Both at the same time? Should I move their old 10g water in to the 20g (half new cycled water half old cycled water) or would having the exact same water perameters as the old tank be good enough?

Thanks again!

Get new sand and rinse it good. Match temp and salinity. Add a bottle of bacteria, then move your rocks over. Then it doesn’t matter. It’s easier to catch fish in less water though. I just moved my tank and I moved rocks, then coral, then drained most of the tank, caught fish and moved them, pulled inverts and moved them.

Yes, I have all new sand and some new rock all ready to go, which was why I thought I would cycle the tank first. I am only keeping a small amount of the rock from the old tank (for aquascaping purposes).

Did you do your move all in the same day or did you spread it out?

I did it all in the span of two hours, but I moved everything but the sand. I’d move all of the established rock and just supplement that with new rock. If you go with mostly new rock, you’re not just looking at a cycle for the basic nitrifying bacteria, but a rebuilding period for the biodiversity base that’s built up on your current rock.
