I have a 75-gallon fish tank and I have sectioned half of it off as a refugium. the refugium is 2 feet long 18 wide and will be 18 inches tall. What should I put in it? I was thinking of putting a sea slug in there to keep things moving and a lot of cheato. I want to grow copepods and other crustations to help with the filtration of the tank. What are your opinions?

In with my chaeto I have 2 blue leg hermits, 1 Trochus snail, and a bunch of limpets as well as thousands of pods. Even thinking about adding some Dragons Tounge to feed my Tangs and large Angels as nori is getting expensive with the amount this pigs eat lol

Don't tangs eat cheato ?

I would get some Amphipods. They will eat algae. They breed like crazy. Once the fuge gets going add some cool stuff like tube worms or other filter feeders. Sponges are another option.

Tangs like Red Gracilaria .

Do you know where i can buy some? for a good price?

I'm interested in the topic . I just put a brand new sump under my 75. Also been thinking about what I will keep in the fuge . I had chaeto, a couple of rocks in there covered with vermitid . Just don't want it going back into the tank. it's destined for the discard rock pile. Anyway, I'm following to hear op's from others.

Mine has never touched any that has made it into the display. Now Nori on the other hand They attack it like sharks!!!
but like you said before buying a lot of nori costs a little fortune. and want something self-sustaining/.

Following along as well. I'm just getting my tank set up and need to figure out my refugium as well.

I plan on adding plenty of copepods, but I'm not sure after that.

C pods need phyto to eat. You will have to dose that to keep a thriving population until your tank and fuge is mature enough to feed them

Yeah. I probably won't add them right away. I really want a Mandarin so I'll have to work on them at some point though.

add live rock mud or sand throw in some macro algae. more rock, more rock, crushed coral, and a **** ton of copepods everything else will just appear over time if you have a successful tank. The refugium becomes inhabitated by all kinds of hitchhikers like, Spagehtti worms, Tube worms, Vermit, Limpets, Star fish, Worms bad and good, snail, amphipods, more copepods, shrimp. I had a large group of Mysis shrimp appear from no where lol
