What type of algae is this? Turf??

I have noticed a bit of algae going on the rocks which is very hard to get off. It looks like very short hair algae. It is almost the look of a short buzzed haircut (best way I can describe it). I can crape if off with my finger nail and has a bit of a velcro feel to it when I get a small piece off. Any idea what it may be and what I can do to get rid of it? My ceriths and tang don't seem to want to touch it.

It's most likely gha. What are your nutrient levels? In my experience ( not a whole lot ) tangs and snails don't seem to touch strong healthy algea

My levels are:
Nitrate 4 to 8 ppm
Phosphate .04 to .08
Alk 7.6 to 8
Cal is 450
Mag is 1450

If you lower you nitrate and phos the algea will get weaker and the tangs and cuc will work but be careful don't bottom it out or you'll get dino which is alot worse

Should I bring my nitrates and phosphates lower than they already are? I thought the levels they are at is pretty much where they need to be. I worry about bottoming out like you said. I have done it before and the dino fight was endless

Correct bottoming out isn't good. I'm fighting dino currently... but if you can keep phos closer to the .04-.05 it should help. I've read that you raise you phos to .1 when fighting dino and .08 is close.

Okay I will give that a try. I picked up a bottle of vibrant also I case I can't get it under control. Any thought on it working against this algae?

I tried it for the. alot of people use it all it did was give me cyano
