That is cyanobacteria. Usually comes along with excess nutrients.
This is a good article about it.

Try using some waste away from dr. tims and see if it helps. Pulling it out of the tank (with a turkey baster or whatever) is also good

cyanobacteria? I thought that had more of a redish color, this is like a deep purple. ive been dosing vibrant every 3 days, doesn't seem to be helping any

Maybe this will help. Cyanobacteria can come in a few colors

ok, I also have been doing redsea's reef energy A and B every two days, maybe I should cut down on that to once a week?

I would say watch your nitrate and phosphate but some others get cyano even without those. Flow can help too.

phosphate is high, .37 cant seem to get it to go down. havnt checked my nitrates in quite some time but the last time I did the API test kit read 0, that was about a month or so ago.

Judging by your rocks the tank looks new. If it is you’ll go through the ugly stage with all types of algae coming and going as the tank becomes more stable. You could leave it and let it go away on it’s own in time or run what was shown above or Chemiclean like I’ve used numerous times to get rid of cyano. If you run one of these treatments keep in mind that it will cause the skimmer to overflow for the time the chemical is in the water.

Have you tried using phosphate media? Were the rocks you got dried and from a previous tank?

Just suck it out during a water change. I wouldn’t go crazy with products with that little bit that you have.

It’ll eventually burn itself out once other things begin to grow and compete with it.

Turn on your white lights it’ll look different.

yes ive been running phosgaurd in a reactor and also carbon, and no the rocks were never live with the exception of one little one I found on in the ocean while snorkeling but I boiled it before adding it to my tank.
