What type of Algae?

Could be Caulerpa sertularoides.

Im sorry to report my friend this appears to be bryopsis algae. You want to rid this sooner rather than later...its considered a pest algae. There are tons of forums on how to rid your tank of this stuff..

Is it best to wait until the tank has finished cycling or should I treat it now?

If it's bryopsis use reef flux it will knock ot. I used it on my tank everything was great no problems.
