I'm trying to figure out what type of corals would do well in my low nutrient tank. SPS? LPS? Softies? My tank has been up and running since Aug 2016. I have a couple of BTA that have split and I'm attributing that to good water and lighting conditions. So what type of corals would do best in my tank?

I have a 90g with sump, AP700, medium water flow in a 4 foot tank, monthly water changes on the 1st of the month, I use Red Sea coral pro salt / have my own RODI unit, nitrate peaks out at 5 by the end of the month, CA between 440-450, ALK steady at 8.5, Mag 1350.

Anything.
Grab some testers of what you like.
Aquatic where house has some sweet pretty ones if your close.

Yeah I'm going down to San Diego tomorrow to visit family and plan on swinging by Aquatic Warehouse and Aqua SD when I get tired of my in laws haha.

What corals do you want grab some testers like salty said

I enjoy seeing movement from corals. Like Red Sea pink Pom Pom Pulsing Xenia, frogspawn, Duncan's. But id also like to have across and their wonderful colors. However, I think the lack of nitrates would take corals like zoas and frogspawn off the list.

I'll probably get 3 SPS, 3 LPS and see what my tank can handle.

So about two minutes till you hit the lfs.

IMO, get what you like. I've seen lower nutrint systems with "zeros" and amazing acros and mats of zoas across the bottom.

ASD will have the high end. I was in AW today and there was a lot of really super reasonably priced and good looking corals. A lot of different kinds too.

The only caviat is the actual lower light corals. Not sure how high your par actually is. If your 100 or less to 400 from bottom to top and not too long a photoperiod your probaly fine with most anything.

Until you see the big fuzzy bouncy mushroom rock and the very reasonably priced and pretty zoas I passed on.

I'll add, the Xenia are the only ones you may actually have trouble with. But only maybe.

Haha.

Well, we shall see how much trouble $ I get myself into.

Haven't tested my par but I'm only running my AP700 at 40% for 6 hours peak at 10 inches above the water. Rock and pumps are 90% covered in coralline. Granted coralline is very easy to grow but the consistency and its overlapping amongst itself is a good sign that it's content with the light it's getting through the depth of the tank.

I'll check out AW

I was there today, too! About 1ish, and yes they had some great stuff today. AquaSD I feel is better to check their sale thread versus their store as I found out they run a second floor of tanks for their online business only and that is where some of their killer pieces can be found. Their front tanks on the left after the dry goods have some great frags, too.

@USMC 4 LIFE if you can swing it check out Reefers Garage in Vista. He's got some great LPS pieces and great prices. We are spoiled for choice in San Diego.
