What type of eel?

I know some of these look like garden eels but what about the ones with the bands around them? I saw them at a shop today.

How deep of a sandbed do they actually need? In my nano I have a pretty deep sand bed

How deep of a sandbed do they actually need? In my nano I have a pretty deep sand bed

I was told Atleast 7 inches, but have seen them in tanks with 3 inches so I’m also intrigued.
As for what they are, the striped ones are splendid garden eels and the spotted ones are spotted garden eels (the most common species).
