All,

I bought a little frag rock with a bunch of mushrooms on it. I removed the mushrooms and glued them to a rock. I noticed after the mushrooms were gone that some sort of polyp coral had tagged along. Can anyone identify this? Maybe a blue polyp coral?

I've heard some of the polyps can really take over your tank. If I just keep it on this rock on a sand island, will it stay there?

Thanks all.

Possible Xenia of some type, or a clove polyp. It'll spread eventually, as long as you keep it on it's own little island you'll be ok :) Awesome hitchiker find :D

Awesome. Thanks! So you'd recommend that I just keep it in there on a little island and see how it grows out?

Oh, yeah. Looking online, this thing looks a lot like some sort of Xenia. I guess I got a freebie!

Yup, i'd leave them on the island, they can take over a tank quickly if not kept in check ;)

I'm thinking clove polyp and really like that color. Occasionally I trim mine back but doesn't seem to do damage since they grow with a vengeance. Good score

On a side note, how the heck did you get your mushrooms to stick to the glue... mine has just slimmed up and detached
They were glued to a piece of rock that was glued to that little disc I bought. I just chipped the mushroom and rock off the disk and glued it where I wanted. One did slime up and float away the day of, though. I'm hoping it attaches somewhere visible.
