What type of worm is this. The thing bit me today cleaning my sump.

Kind of looks like a fireworm. Any pics of it in the water? Also, please don't touch it with your skin.

If it is a fireworm (hopefully someone else will confirm), it burns quite a bit.

Looks like a large bristle worm. Would have more markings to be fireworm

I thought bristleworms would be more pink. With only some partial purple/grey (whatever that colour is in the centre), not for the entire length of the worm.

Here are the pictures I gathered on the fireworm and the bristle worm. Kind of look similar.

Bristleworms is the whole family of worms that have those bristles. So it is kind of misleading when we say bristleworm, but what is actually meant by "bristleworm" is this:

These are harmless and are filter feeders. If you get pricked by those (which i have), it hurts a bit (unless you're allergic and react to it).

Fireworms are a type of bristleworm, but not the "bristleworm" that is commonly talked about on these forums (i.e. the pic above).

Both the pics you posted are fireworms. Unfortunately, getting pricked by those hurts quite a lot more from what i've read.

Was just going to say something similar :) great explanation. And yep both of those pics look like fireworms to me :)...

Another easy way to tell - standard bristleworms are brown, no read. Bright red lines are a sign of it likely being a fireworm.

I don't see a lot of bristles on it, and there is red on him. He made me bleed but that's about it. Anyway he got flushed down the toilet.

I accidentally clicked the wrong image for the bristle worm.

But heres a good video to see the difference.
Bristle Worm vs Fireworm
I just watched that video, mine was thick. That was the fist thing that got my attention after he bit me, was how wide it was.
