What type of wrasse is this?

Hey guys the question pretty much says it all. This guy is labeled as a scott's fairy wrasse but looks nothing like one, thoughts? The guy was pretty camera shy so it's hard to get a good picture of it's side, sorry.

That’s a pretty fair price for a healthy male. I’ve seen them as high as $250 on Divers Den.

That's an excellent price.

This fish has been my Eleanor. I seem to be jinxed every time I try to keep it. I've had two get spinal injuries in QT and another jump while I had my back turned and the cover off for maintenance.

Are they particularly rare or something. The only current listing online (that works) is saltwaterfish.com and its like 250 bucks lol. I might pick this guy up for my 75, from what ive seen they look pretty good under better lights .

That’s a great price. There’s one on divers den for $199 They are very docile. It’s a great reef fish.

I've had two get spinal injuries in QT.

Not with this wrasse, but I've had two injure their spines either in QT or in the process of moving to the DT. In both cases (a lubbocks and labouts) the fish did spirals for a few days before expiring.

The price on these is actually coming down a lot here in the northeast. I recently got mine for only $50 and is doing well....very easy to acclimate eating everything the same day of purchase.

Agreed. $100 is very reasonable for a pintail.

@HotRocks and I have gotten two pintail through quarantine that disappeared in our covered display tanks. A couple others that got spinal injuries. They're not a particularly hardy fish. I hypothesize that the rambunctious tankmates and potentially more aggressive wrasse are the culprit. I did keep one for about 6 months in a giant wrasse tank but it did not come out very frequently.

A stunning fish, they need to be kept with less active, less aggressive, and less intimidating tank mates, IMO. I do not plan to purchase another.

Of all wrasses I've kept, these are the worst for jumping. My buddy's had the same fate - even with a tank cover it found its way out and crispified.

I know of others that will not buy another one because they say they always seem to hang out in the rocks and never come out. Quite shy. I had one that was great until one morning he came out with a bent pectoral fin. The next day he had chunk out of his head but ate fine. The following day he was gone. I had him about 2 mos total in my DT and about 8 wks prior to that in QT. Maybe my Lineatus chased him I dunno. I will eventually get another and maybe sooner rather than later.
