Curious i had two diadema sea urchins die on me. I wonder what the cause was?

A) rapid drop in salinity from 1.028 to 1.026

B) a new pvc pond liner put in the bottom of the saltwater pond. Some sort of toxin or tin?

C) a piece of acrylic i heated up to bend the sides and used to raise my simmer to the correct water level. Does heating release something in acrylic?

D) i glued some pipes with abs glue. Let it sit for only 10 minutes and turned on the pump to circulate. Acetone poisoning?

E) 100% water change. When my tank cracked i bought a 250 gallon horse trough for my fish and urchins to live in. I used brand new instant ocean. I transfered the next day all rocks and livestock.

F) reverse osmosis water. No deion resin. Tds reads 1-2 ppm. Never had a problem in the tank. Metal toxicity? Copper?

Corals and fish are fine. Only the two sea urchins slowly died in a few days after gluing abs pipes. Mayne i should have waited longer.

I've glued PVC and put it into use in under 10 minutes so I don't think that's your issue. The salinity drop could of been a problem. Urchins can be pretty sensitive. But you also had several changes at once it sounds like so its hard to pinpoint.

Thabks for the replies.

Ive found out that some pvc pond liners cab have arsenic. Possible culprit?

So an update. One of the sea urchins is eating again and despite loosing most of its spines its regrowing them. So im happy about that. Im feeding it sinking kelp wafers daily.

What i did that I think saved the urchin was add activated carbon daily for three days as well as added gfo.

I read a website saying pvc pond liners can have arsenic in them, not sure why or how but i figured since gfo removes arsenic and some other heavy metals id use that. So its possible gfo and carbon helped to remove something toxic. Wish i had an icp done to confirm this but i dont. Hopefully this may help someone one day.
