So i have 2 RBTAs in my tank. I havent been able to find either since 2 weeks after i upgraded. Now im doing a water change right now and stirring up the macro algea in the fuge area when i find this! I swear thats the smaller of the two and it was in my fuge!! Its sevearly bleached and tiny, but i put it up in the display with the better lights and flow. Hopefully it recovers. The weirdest thing i just cant get over, is how it ended ip in my fuge!! Crazy!

They have been known to move around until they find a place they feel suits their needs, more than likely it got dislodged while moving and ended up in the overflow... you know the rest of the story.

This darn thing was just plain letting go of it's foot hold before it disappeared. After that I placed it in a small alcove where wouldn't get blown around. It then moved behind those rocks never to be seen again.... until now. I totally believe it got sucked into the overflow... it's small enough for it and it was very near the lower vents on the overflow when it disappeared. Now it has let go of the rock it was attached to AGAIN. Just minutes after posting the picture! I have it in a jack daniels glass with a small piece of rock to hold on to so it wont blow away. Its also partially shaded to keep it from being light shocked. Not sure if i'm doing this right, but i'm try'n my best for this little thing.

I wouldn't say it is severely bleached. I have had mushrooms sprout out underneath rocks and they are usually pale in color. I have noticed that darkness can leave mushrooms and anemones white. It will recover :). Nice find!

Heres how i have him now.

Well I'm glad i'm just over reacting to its whiteness. It still has pink on the tips so that must be a good thing. Thanks for the encouraging words. :)

I have a couple of rock anemonies and they tend to move back and forth until they find the right level of light. The red one likes more light than the green one but when it's had enough it moves down between the rocks and then comes back out a day or two later to the same place it was before.

You know what? All three of my nems hide in the rocks away from the light. I've tried changing up my flow to entice them out of hiding... I've tried not turning on the brights (what I call the coral+, pink and purple bulbs), I've tried feeding them, not feeding them. They all hide from me. I have three and you can't see any of them! Well, except for the one I just put in the whisky glass of course. lol

My personal experience with the rock anemonies is they do well if you don't feed them, better if you feed daily, and terrible if you feed occasionally. This might not hold true for anyone else but I've had rock nems off and on for quite a few years and I try to feed my daily. I only feed them very small foods, nothing bigger than mysis shrimp. They seem to enjoy filter feeding foods like coral frenzy or reef chili. I doubt on the reef they capture much that's bigger.

it will come back, I've had that happen to me. I just posted the 2 it happened to and considering trading 1 for a bali red mini

Me too!! I have one little guy, looks similar to yours – attached and hiding to the back of the rock in the back of my tank. I cannot seem to coax him around at all! She was so pretty when I first saw him and he does not seem very happy now.[emoji22]

The Green BTA I have looks fine but is hidden inside the rocks. I can sometimes see it when it pops out for some light.. but most of the time just stays hidden. The one I posted a pic of is simply not happy. It has been moving around the whisky glass all day.... sometimes letting go all together and sitting upside down for a bit before getting it's foot under it again. So weird. I don't know how these people get their nems to stay out in the open and look'n all pretty like they do.

Just lurking here to see what you find out... I have the same anemone and the same problem...

Well, I haven't found out a thing. The RBTA that I had in the whiskey glass? Totally escaped and is MIA again! The Green BTA was killed in a powerhead right before I left for vacation. First time that ever happened to me, so I'll be rethinking my powerheads and placement before trying nems again. I would still like to know the answer myself before I get another one though!

Oh bummer!!
Yeah, I don't trust/like the power head either- I put a pantyhose over the body of it and haven't lost anything since, but the flow is definitely different...

Even though lots of people say Bta's are so easy to keep, they're really not. It takes a mature and rather stable tank to keep any Anemone really, besides maybe a condi.
Now I'm not trying to say this is why your having trouble. I have no idea but I do know from experience (I currently have 6 btas) that where you get your bta can be a big factor. You don't want one from a store that just got it in a shipment. The Nems gonna be stressed to the max already from 2-3 shipments in a short time. You want to get a hardy Nem that's been doing well in someone's tank for a good amount of time. Local is best imo although there's nothing wrong with getting a healthy Nem shipped either.

Thanks! I'll definitely wait a good while before trying another one. Your probably right on track there. They did great in my 40, but once I upgraded they started roaming and things just went downhill from there. I'll keep your tips in mind next time I try one though. I know a guy who has a bunch and sells them occasionally. :)

I started off with a pair in my 66 gallon tank (they were originally one in the previous tank) and I currently have 4 and have sold off two. Recently I had one take up a perfect residence and is now about 5" across and super red. Love these things...

as for the Rocks, I have a pair of those two and feed them occasionally (maybe once a month if that).

Hard to get them all in one pic but here's a few of mine. Not the best pic as I just snapped it really quickly just now. Few of mine are humongous and take up to much room in my tank! Lol
