What was your biggest difficulty in reefing?

Bryopsis for sure. The fluconazole treatment for it was amazing, but by the time that finally became a thing, vibrant ruined my acros colors and they never really fully recovered before my tank crashed back in December (unrelated). I'm not saying vibrant is bad, I purposely didn't follow their recommendations because I wanted it gone so badly I dosed more than I should've; but even at the increased amount it never beat my strain of bryopsis so wasn't worth it for me.

Did you try Elysia Lettuce Slugs before fluconazole or Vibrant? I recently had the beginnings of a bryopsis outbreak. Just small patches here and there, but more and more of them, and manual removal didn't help. Tried Emerald Crabs first; did nothing. Then I got 8 Lettuce Slugs (for a 100g tank). At first I wasn't sure, but they seemed to find it and within days the bryopsis was disappearing. Within 2 weeks it was gone everywhere, even hard to reach locations, and now I'm concerned that these fantastic (and beautiful) slugs are going to starve.

No sadly I had/have wrasses that would've seen them as an expensive treat, I did consider them though.

Fluconazole was an amazing fix, I'd use it again in a heartbeat.

Fluconazole has yet to solve mine, or anybody I know in the area's bryopsis problem. It dies, sure. But it comes back every single time. 7th times the charm.
 
Self control, for sure. I'm an addict in recovery, so by nature, I have very obsessive/compulsive tendencies. Combine that with a hobby that most people consider very addictive and it's very easy for me to get completely caught up in it.

Odd. It worked for me, I bought it pretty soon after it became a thing. I have yet to have any come back, it's probably nearing almost a year by now? I think.
 
I guess mine was Nitrate Phosphate and GHA, after I installed a fuge it all went away not over night but I really think it was the best thing I have ever done

Thanks for mentioning this. I have a little Bryopsis starting up right now so I’ll give these slugs a try. Is there a place that’s good to buy them from?

Flasher, Fairy, and melanurus wrasses seem to leave them alone, fwiw.
 
Good thought for a thread......I guess. Okay, mine is about 10-11 years ago.
Wife is out of town, where, I can't remember. I'm out with a six and two year old.
I pull into our driveway and there is water coming under our front door and down the steps and walkway. AND out from under the garage door.

A high pressure line to an old school Beckett skimmer had some loose. It was plumed not to an overflow, but to a screened hole drilled in the bottom of a 215 brick attached to a 350 gallon system. The only saving grace was the Panworld pressure pump was plugged into a GFI which tripped after around 75-100 gallons had exited the system.
I used every towel, wash cloth, and sheet in our house to sop up what was left inside. Washed them all and back in closet before Wife returned 1-2 days later. Under certain weather conditions you can still see salt crystals form along our walkway :).

My biggest fear with our 75 gallon tank.

Hard to imagine 10 gallons of water on the floor, let alone 75, let alone saltwater.

Me and the tank will both be out the door. [emoji53]

Great job on the cleanup!

If it doesn't freak her out thinking about it, she must really not have any idea. Too bad you didn't take pictures for her. [emoji6]
 
I had an awful battle with aiptasia anemone in my previous tank.

Went though Aiptasia X, Peppermint shrimps and fishes. They made my nano look awful.
 
Luckily, our office (where tank was) and foyer, and guest bathroom are tiled and laundry room hard flooring. A little went into our living room carpet. Water didn't get high enough to soak up walls other than next to water line where it must have been whipping around. Really lucky actually I still shutter thinking if the GFI hadn't tripped. That tank was full of sps colonies including some big shipments from Sanjay and Mike P.

I am very grateful for that text, and now I am battling a case of the uglys as well, but I am happy to do it at this point! Happy to have my reef up and running and happy to report everything has lived since figuring out the issue!

That is interesting. How did you discover the stray voltage and what component was found guilty?
