What was your *doh* moment in reefing?

For me it was waiting a year and half to remove those ugly black hinges from the glass top because I didn't want to shatter them.
I was -today-years-old- when I realized I could run it under hot water for 2 minutes and the hinge would pull right off.

Mine was realizing after giving my tank to one of my wife's coworkers that I didn't have a siphon break and the way the plumbing was designed there wasn't a good way to add on.

I might have heard about a "minor" flood a few weeks later...

Forgot to add: cut the hinge apart first with razor down the middle so it's 2 pieces.
