I have a 29g drilled tank with 3/4" pvc going into a 10g sump. There are 3 right angles in the intake (I might turn these to 6 45 angles for better intake). For the output I am using 3/4" tubing and at the end is a 3/4" pvc right angle (might change to 2 45s as well). The height is 40-44" not sure on exact measurement. I am using the Aleas HM-5063 Submersible Pump (rated 2000LPH, didnt feel like converting to GPH lol) the return and flow was balanced, however the flow was very very weak to the point were I couldnt feel any flow 5" from the output underwater. Any suggestions on a good pump to use? I want most of my water flow to be from the pump and I will be getting a 500gph power head to go in the tank for added flow.

Your not supposed to use return lines from sumps for flow, they are just there to return water back to the tank from the sump, nothing more. If you get a stronger pump, you'll empty your sump out, and flood your room.

Okay so I should just get a gate valve to reduce flow a bit so the intake can work properly and get maybe 2 power heads instead of 1? I need the valve because the only way it evens out is when the intake is completely under water and you can hear it gasping for air and is loud instead of just draining from the top of the water.

You want to T off the return line, with that line going back to the sump, add a ball or gate valve on there to fine tune your return flow.
Yes, get a couple powerheads for your flow.

In order to fine tune your return form the sump. You T off the return line, with a line that goes back to the sump, just a little piece, on the end of that piece you put a ball or gate valve. With the valve wide open, the flow to the DT will be slow, with the valve closed the flow will be fast.

Okay so instead of putting that gate valve just one the one hose going to the main tank i put it on the return to control flow? I guess that makes since but why not just put the valve on the one hose and not worry about T-ing the return? Whats the significance to having some flow directed back to the tank? Sorry for sounding so dumb I am new to reefing and sumps...
