At first I thought it was some sort of mushroom, but it moved to a different rock within a few hours. Also the hole at the center of it will open and close. It is about the size of a US quarter. Some type of flatworm, maybe?

I thought mushroom as well just looking at the picture before reading. Do you have any inverts such as snails dying recently? It’s kind if giving me polyclad flatworm vibes.

That center hole may be that of a tunicate

Of course- keyhole limpet aka FLESHY which thrives itself on a diet of algae. Keyhole Limpet thrive in an established tank where it can help control nuisance algae.

Yep, fleshy limpet. Found one myself after five months. They’re very cool looking!
Same, my tank is about 6 months old and just noticed it. I am reading some species will eat corals or coralline. Have you have any issues?

I haven’t noticed it near any corals, it mainly just sticks to the glass and rocks. If it eats coralline, it’s certainly not enough for me to notice in my 40b. I’m pretty confident at this point that it’s safe :)
