I'd be pretty surprised to hear that blue squammies are really common, but instead everyone just sells more demanding maximas or less attractive brown/tan mixture squammies. Not sure I get the sales thinking there oh:

I've seen black maximas; they are neat, but tend to sit at any LFS that gets them, at least from what I've seen

ORA black "zebra" maxima clams are rarer than your blue squammies and such. As soon as you say rare, people have pictures of teardrop maximas and all the rest, but you never see many pics of these; think about it. According to ORA, they sell all their black's (and theirs are so-so... its hit and miss as to what you end up with really) to the EU because there are more there who are willing to pay top dollar for clams unlike here where the supply of all the other clams would make paying $800 or more for a black clam seem crazy.

Even rarer than that, and the most rare and beautiful I would have to say, is the black galaxy maxima. Its black with little speck size spots of that glowing white/blue that makes it look like the sky at night. Ive only seen a couple ever. This one is close, but imagine all the spots as only round dots, not oblong or striped:

So correct me if I am wrong buy are you trying to tell me that the black and white Maxima's are rarer than blue Squamosa's or blue Derasa's here in the US?

If so please show me where I can find one of the blue clams? I would be more than happy to show you right now where you can buy a black and white Maxima. I see them for sale all the time. I have only ever saw 3 blue Squamosa's for sale in all the hears that I have been keeping clams and all 3 sold instantly for prices that were way out of my price range. I have personally seen 2 blue Derasa's in my time, one was at a LFS for big bucks and the other is currently in my tank which I paid big bucks for even at wholesale.

I just picked this Dersa up from a guy in Ohio. I wouldn't consider it rare but unusual for a Dersa. It has the bigger blue dots but also has small electric blue dots in green rim on the mantle.

I used to be huge into clam keeping, but the rarest clam I have ever seen, in person, was a true blue Squamosa in Orlando FL at a shop called Sea in the City. It was extremely healthy and absolutely gorgeous.

I have seen other clams that could be considered rare, but the blue Squamosa is the most memorable to me.

The rarest clam I have ever owned was a hybrid Maxima/Crocea clam. It wasn't gorgeous, but it was definitely interesting!
