Hello,

I have an outbreak of bryopsis that I am treating with Tech M (I know it's not the mag that kills the bryopsis) in tank because of the size of my rock insert. I've been adding enough Tech M to raise my mag by 100 ppm for the last 6 days, but the mag is not raising...it's staying around 1260. I've ordered a new Mag test kit to see if the kit is faulty, but was wondering what else it could be. On the positive side the ends of the bryopsis leaves are turning black, so hopefully whatever is in the Tech M is working on it.

Nothing will keep it from rising except not adding enough (which includes mismanufacture).

Kit error may prevent you from properly seeign the rise.

So let me verify my calculations:
Tech M instructions: "...Add 1 mL (1/4 tsp) per gallon of aquarium water each day to bring the level to between 1250 and 1350 ppm. This will raise the level by 18.3 ppm per day."

I have a 75G DT with 25G sump/refugium = 100G

So if I want to raise it by 100 ppm, I would add ~ 546 mL .... (100ppm/18.3ppm) = 5.464. 5.464 x 100gal = 546.4 mL

Using online converter 546 mL = 2.3 cups

And...I miscalculated and was only adding 1/2 cup per day...no wonder it wasn't raising

Didn't you take volume displacement (plumbing, stock, rock, bedding, ect) when calculating ?

I was reading on one of these sites before on how to factor in all the hidden space when calculating volume.

FWIW, I doubt that is very important for most folks purposes since we rarely need to get dosing especially precise. :)

I use kalkwasser mixes,mg additives, and always tried to be dead on about water volume. My system is four different tanks, and when I first started out years ago I was always scared of over dosing anything.
