what would you choose between a mp40w or gyre maxpect..???

The Gyre will move 95% of the water in a 5' long tank. To do the same with MP40's you'd need about 4+ of them. It's really no contest.
The only disadvantages are 1) durability is unproven 2) hard to get random flow out of them vs gyre.
I own two Gyre 150's and love them. They are set between 20-30% power because anymore kicks up the entire sandbed on my 48" long tanks.

Here in Australia, the gyre is half the price of the vortechs so my LFS tells me. Same water movement, half the price. I'm a budget reefer, so I would have to go for the gyre out of those two even though I've never used either

Gyre. I have one and it moves more then I will ever need. I had it on at 50% and it killed my xenia. Lesson learned and I now have it at 10% in my 90 gallon
