Well I just got my salt today and it looks like it's been through a war! Usually when I order salt it comes as just a bucket of salt. Well when I opened my door there was a big box there. So I huffed it inside and opened it up. So far ok. Looks like a bucket wraped in plastic and sum paper packing around it. Opened the plastic and found a busted up bucket as I open the lid the salt is wrapped in more plastic and zip tied. what the heck? Pulled the whole bucket out of the box and packing this bucket was shredded!

So here's what I think happened!
Someone through this bucket across a room and down sum stairs and maybe under a bus! Then scooped up all the salt off the ground put it in a bag, zip tied it, put it in the bucket, the a box and finished shipping it to my door.
Ugh!
So would you use any of this salt? I only need to make this batch of water to go from 1.020 salinity to 1.025. Not sure If I should or should I just wait the 5 days to get my replacement bucket. It's not that I desperately need to do a water change. Just wana try out the new salt. Anyways enough rambling what would you do? Oh here's the pics I took.

I don't think I would use it myself. Does it look like it has spilled out maybe contaminated?

If it is Red Sea salt, it is standard for them to bag the product inside the bucket and tie with a twist tie. My buckets are often cracked or broken. Occasionally salt is even inside the cracked bucket. The buckets are brittle. I have not had problems with the salt in my tank in any event but agree it is annoying.

Ok so the bag is ripped on the side and someone has taped it. I don't see any contamination in the salt, like black specks or anything. It still makes me a lil nervous.

I've had the exact same thing happen with that brand of salt. I used it. No problems what so ever. And I didn't even think twice about using the replacement bucket too LOL.

If it looks like it spilled out and someone cleaned it up, I would be to chicken to use it.

Well now I'm not sure if that's the case this is my first bucket of the red sea brand. I was switching frm reef crystals. So if this brand is packaged into a bag in the bucket I think I will be ok. The buckets tore up and a hole in the side of the bag. But the salt doesn't look dirty so I'm guessing the zip tied bag wasn't opened. I think I'm gona pour it out onto a big flat pan and see if there is any dirty looking salt and go from there

Just take the tape off the hole and let a little salt spill out then seal it up again. It always comes in a bag in the bucket from my experiences.

No way would I keep it let alone use it!! How much salt was actually lost? Anything could have gotten into it! Salt absorbers moisture! You have no way of knowing how long (or where for that matter) that bag sat out in the open. Nope, no way, nada! Send it back!

You guys crack me up!
Is this a comedy routine?

No, don't use it!
For one thing, it's been exposed to air. The moment it is exposed to air it reacts with the moisture, permanently altering its chemical composition. Different brands have different tolerances I suppose, but there is no knowing how long it was exposed or in what manner. If it were Oceanic, you'd see an oily slush all around the puncture hole.

All I know is I ordered it. It shipped on Monday and got it Wednesday. I will just pitch it. It's to much of a chance

This was constantly occurring to my buckets when I order fro Dr Fosters and Fedex. I contacted Dr Fosters and they replaced each bucket that was damaged. I could three of my buckets that had been crashed and clear had spilled but fedex scooped up and rebadged it plus any other items that were in the floor. That was for Dr Foster but those items are covered by the seller.

That's exactly where I got it from but was shipped ups. They are sending the replacement through fed ex now. Did you use any of the salt?

Ok thanks. I'm still on the fence about this. From what i can see it looks ok. But what do i know. The reef crystals always had little black specs in it so idk

Pro doesn't have black in it from what I can see but when I say chunks I mean chunks and straw and other floor particles. If it looks good I used mine.
