What would you do?

So, earlier today I saw something I didn’t wish to have. My Pink Streak Wrasse died (Stripey with a Mohawk). The body wasn’t taken out earlier as my Pom Pom Crab had hold of it (Scared me too much as I thought it was a decorator crab that went under my radar). Here’s my two options:

Option A:
Tear appart the rockwork and fish the body out.
Flaws to this:
- I have a Griessinger Goby
- Potebtially going to spike or stress the clam out

Option B:
Let the CUC handle the rest and make sure nothing spikes
Flaws to this:
- Potentially going to spike if left too long
- CUC may not find the body hidden behind the rocks

What would YOU do! And if you’d do something else please help me.

Sorry about the wrasse. Do you have an idea as to why it died?
I’ve had a few fish die in my evo with no noticeable consequences.
The cuc probably already got to the wrasse.
I’d poke around the tank for it, but wouldn’t tear it apart. Small fish in a relatively big, established system shouldn’t cause too much an issue imo.

I would leave it be and watch your levels. If it happens to get into a more accessible location then I would take the opportunity to pull it out.

Unfortunately it’s a 20g max nano, with a deresa clam so a fish dying can spike quite quickly.

Also as to why it died I have no idea, I put it down to old age.

let nature take its course. i had the same situation happen, but with my court jester goby... wasn't even aware it had died until i found what was left of its head.

if you have nassarius snails and crabs. it will be fine.

I only have 3 snails that I think are carnivores.
Strawberry conch
2x Nassarius snails
The rest are 4 Trochus snails.

I then only have one “true” crab which is the Pom Pom and then also a Dwarf Blue Leg, do you think that would be enough?

nassarius snails have a pretty big appetite. if you have the "XL" tonga ones, it should suffice.

Id let it go, let the cuc do its thing. If your fearful of a nutrient spike, more or larger water changes usually do it.

I would leave it and mitigate and monitor.

Mitigation: I might feed a little less for a while. Maybe do an extra water change after a few days.
Monitor: Test ammonia and nitrates and take action if necessary.

I would get a Seachem ammonia alert badge and just leave it.

A dead smallish wrasse in a 20g might raise your nitrates a little, but it’s not going to nuke your tank, your bio-filter can handle it.

What if he was just under 2 inch?

I would leave it in there and not risk killing another fish looking for it.

You have a similar mind to me, I was going to ask someone in my family what they think several times then second guess and repeat. This forum saved my family from an extreme amount of pain haha

It’ll be fine. If it was a 3 inch tang or something, I’d try to get it out, but a little wrasse won’t cause any issues (just a feast for your CuC and your nitrates might go up 5-10 points).
