If I gave you a 3’x16”x1’ tank like mine. And I said “Make it look best viewed top down” what would you do? It’s a bit late for me as I’ve already began putting in SPS frags/mini colonies (No seriously, I got sold a frag that looks more like a mini colony). Please ignore the nasties… Im dealing with them. Also, the birds nest is bleaching because of my Gobiodon acicularis. This is an older FTS by the way but it looks similar to the tank today

If it were me. Hmmmm. I would add god knows as many acro sticks as would fit, therefore when it’s grown all you see are nice large acro tables, and add some Zoas in-between the acros, at a considerable distance. I think that would make a phenomenal top view. That’s what I would do :)

Exactly this.

You need to cover all the rocks with corals. :)

All of that sand bed would be covered in carpets, that's for sure.
I would do that but unfortunately I have a Leopard in there and chances are in the very future I’ll be owning a Choati.
Would be so fun to see what you would’ve done if this was in your possession for sure. You’re one of the people I look at to see what to do with coral.

I understand your reservations, especially with a choati on deck. I have a bluestar in with all of my carpets and wonder if one day it will dive into one.

With coral placement, I try to consider form, color, and texture when setting new ones in.

Well, here’s an FTS from recently!! Along with some coral pieces and the inverts I have chosen/had in the tank previously but weren’t looking as bright ;)
Would love to hear more ideas!!

Montipora digitata - Red w/ Golden specks (Can be seen in the old FTS but much lighter and a lot less growth)

Montipora spoingodes - Sunset (Coloured up - can be seen as a red frag in the other FTS)

Acropora sp. - Pearlberry (Coloured up - rather hard to miss in the old FTS)

Acropora valida - Tricolour (More purple - looks more brown/black in the old FTS)

Tridacna deresa - Gold (Can be seen in the old FTS, but not as bright or obvious)

Tridacna maxima - Ultra (New to the tank since the old FTS)

I would still love to hear other ideas, this is just a few idea of what I’ve gone for as eye catching pieces so far however other ideas that may go well would be greatly appreciated. I’ve wanted a Pink Lemonade Acropora for a while but would love to hear your ideas of alternatives as these apparently look best under white light and mines slightly more blue.

Was that 16' or was that a typo?
It’s a 3 foot by 16 inch by 1 foot. It’s shallower than most nanos however it works for what I’m aiming for.

Are you sure the Needle Spine Goby is causing problems with your Birds Nest? When I got my Birds Nest Frag, I was told they were very susceptible to stinging from other corals. That’s why I put the Frags on the Overflows. BTW The First Image is new in my 120 Gallon, Second Image is in my 65 Gallon. The Frag in 65 was approximately the size of the 120 Gallon Frag.

It’s definitely the goby - he perched in it for ages but now he’s stopped perching in it as often it’s recovering slowly.
