What year didyou buy your LED lighting system?

Everyone says LED diodes are "suppose" to last around 10yrs.

I'm running a poll to see if anyone has maximized their 10yrs

I bought my Hydra 52's in May of 2016 but the Vega's they replaced are still in use on a friends tank. I bought those in 2012.

Have LED lights even been available for reef tanks for 10 years? I was still using MH in 2008, and don't recall LEDs as an option ,,,,, but maybe the memory is flawed. Also, early reef LEDs tended to be white/blue, which quickly proved insufficient, so most got replaced before they got old. Finally, the diodes themselves may well last 10 years (to the L70 point) but supporting electronics may not. I have a few Kessil spots that are 4 years old; otherwise everything else is newer than that.

I did a quick search in the lighting section over at RC....not much talk in 2009/10 about LED's. Aqua Illumination had a fixture that was over a grand someone put on their 29 gallon.

I built an LED fixture in about 2010 with white, blues and reds that were independently controlled by a Potentiometers. Last I checked my lfs that I sold it to was still using it.

I'm running Gen1 radions that were retrofitted to Gen3.

I could be wrong ( getting old and the memory isn't like it used to be), but I think my first led fixture was in 2011.
A Reef Breeders value fixture.
That same year I won a Radion XR30 at my LFS's raffle.
The next year bought 3 Radion XR30's

Yeah. I didn't know how far back to do the poll.

I was thinking LEDs hit the market around 2010....but didn't know if it went back earlier

Polaris LED which was made by PFO was the first reef led fixture. I believe it came out around 2008. It was definitely after 2006 because that was the first year I was really into the hobby and I remember (vaguely) these things coming out. They were supposed to be the equivalent of a 250w halide and were not very impressive in real life despite being really expensive.

I bought my maxspect LED's in 2015, I've had about 15% of the LED chips fail out so far after 4 years.

It was definitely after 2006 because that was the first year I was really into the hobby and I remember (vaguely) these things coming out. They were supposed to be the equivalent of a 250w halide and were not very impressive in real life despite being really expensive.

I remember those Polaris fixtures.
A friend got one and she was so proud of it.
I went over to see it and the first thing I asked was how long does it take to come up to full power. lol
It was really dim.
