Thinking of getting an ATO for my 30g that I am setting up but wanted to get some opinions about which brand is best and just info about them in general.

Honestly, I am old school.
I have a float valve that is drilled into the back of my sump, connected by airline to my water storage reservoir. Thats is. Gravity fed.

I like Tunze, had a JBJ and both sensors failed and it flooded my downstairs. The Tunze has optical sensor and a float backup. I then installed their outlet switch and put another float on to depower the outlet as another backup! I have not needed it, the Tunze has been great.

Built my own with a few magnetic water level sensors, a solid state relay, 12v adapter and pump...Save some money and build it yourself!

I've had the Tunze running on my tank for 19 months with zero problems. Easy to set up and very reliable for me.

Sounds like I will be going with the Tunze!

Really can't go wrong with it. It's compact and has the ability to be used for nano tanks as well. I just learned this, there is the ability to turn down the stream output. Opening the box doesn't void the warranty as far as I'm aware. You have 2 switches of different tech. It comes with everything you need out of the box and nothing additional. Just some things to think over.
Good luck in whichever you choose. :tea:

Actually per instructions you are supposed to open the box to change your alarm. Can't remember if it is a setting or volume, but they show how to open even.

lol I have yet to hear a bad thing about the tunze.

As much as people recommend the Tunze ATO, I can not. I'm on my 3rd pump for my Tunze ATO system, although, it was used. This is setup on my frag tank.

However, my Spectrapure UPLC-II is going on 7+ years of flawless operation. This one is setup on my display tank.

I am not normally a guy that needs the "best" equipment, but there are a few things like ATO where I do want the absolute best,it helps that as I said once I had to clean up a huge mess... but I did quite a bit of research on ATOs when needing a new one before getting the Tunze. If I remember correctly I found a thread, maybe on RC, that had an electrical engineer or some such thing and they were talking about sensors and the tunze was by far the best and that sensor is where the extra expense comes in.

I should add that I do not use the pump included. I use the avast ultra strong diaphragm pump.

Pump? Do you let them run dry? I see that they are pretty sensitive if left to run dry. Or is it the connectors? Three pumps seems terribly excessive to fail.
