Whats a good refractomoter?

Ive had a red sea in the beginning, then i upgraded to the milwaukee. Currently I’m using the new Ice cap digital pocket tester and it works amazing! fast results and easier to use than milwaukee. All you do is insert tip of probe in tank water about 1.5 inches and within 5 sec. you get a clear digital numeric reading in ppt/sg/or psu plus u also get a temp reading and its backlit. Audible sound once reading is complete.. I love this thing.. it’s the size of a sharpie. Not going back to another one. IM SOLD! ICECap hit a home run with this one. Best part “NO CALIBRATION NEEDED”..

Still recommend it? Mybrs refracto rusted over on the adjustment dial!

How often are you having to recalibrate, and with what?

I have started a tank 5 months ago tried the millwalkie it was a hassel to work with and never on point ... the hanna they bring calibration bags u just stick it in calibrate take 30 seconds I have calibrated once when I opened up I use it almost every day bc its so easy

How long have you guys been using them? I'm seeing a lot of bad reviews for these two models , but gotta take them with a grain of salt .I'm also looking into the vee gee model mentioned earlier in this thread. It is similar to a brs or redsea but better material and consistency

I’ve had it for about 4 months. I’ll admit I bought it used but it was unused so I got a good price. I like that it can be calibrated with RO water. I had solution for my refractometer and I hated that. I used a hydrometer for the longest time. This Milwaukee has been so great to use. I did a bunch of research before buying and didn’t see much about them not working or breaking.

Good to know. It's either milwauki or a used veegee a member has for sale here. I can get the veegee and a hm temp meter for 60 shipped from him.
So you calibrate your milwauki to zero and then it also comes with 35 ppt solution to verify its reading correctly?

I bought this one 18 months ago. Never had an issue with it, easy to use. I bought calibration fluid from BRS and check it often, but have only had to adjust once or twice.

I also use this one off amazon, although it was closer to $15 from another seller, I would just do a quick amazon search and grab a highly rated one. They all are fairly cheap

What's your opinion, a used veegee for 60 bucks or a new milwauki? I see you use the milwauki everyday... But for half the price there is veegee

Milwaukee digital refractometer, as it is easy to calibrate, easy to read, and accurate based on several comparison tests I ran. I have relegated the analog spyglass types to storage.

I just zero it with RO and then test whatever water I’m working with. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but the main reason I spent the money on this was so o did t have to mess around with calibration fluids.

The Milwaukee digital refractometer? You don’t need to calibrate it every time. I’ve tested that by checking a sample, calibrating, and checking a second time. I’ve seen no change. I’d calibrate every week or two just to be safe, but definitely not necessary every single time.

This is the one thing i've put off getting.Seriously, almost all of them look exactly the same and i think are probably made at the same factory in China. But whats a good one? The BRS one? I know theres the green 110 dollar one, but is that overkill?
