Take it outside and shoot it with the hose.

Turn sock inside out to check for critters, rinse grunge with garden hose, soak in mild bleach solution for about 4 days, rinse again with garden hose, put in fresh water for 2 days and then let dry. Bleach will dissipate and not harm anything in the tank. Been doing this for years with no problems. I have quite a supply of them so I can take my time between uses.

Laundry sink turned inside out with sprayer. Then into a bucket of bleach water until I get 4-5 then into the wash they go with 1 c bleach, white cycle with extra rinse, then run another rinse cycle. Allowed to air dry.

If your wife/significant other allows it turn them inside out and put them in the washing machine with a little bleach. Or if youre like me sneak them in the washimg machine with a little bleach.

Depends on the type of sock and/or the type of washing machine.


I have mesh socks and simply rinse them off using the sprayer in the kitchen sink or outside using a hose. I use to bleach them, but this causes a premature death of the sock by making the fabric brittle and easily ripped.

If you have a felt socks, you really have no choice but to use a washing machine. They are more difficult to clean. The problem here is that I have large socks (seven inches), with a hard plastic ring in the top of the sock. I also have a top-loading agitating washing machine. The two don’t get along….the agitator rips up that hard plastic ring on the sock. Now if you have a front loading washing machine, no problem!

I turn mine inside out and make sure I get any baby snails etc out then into the washing machine by itself. small load, hot water. No dryer. I rotate the two I have so I always have a clean one to put in.

I rinse the socks off with sprayer, inside and out. Then put into a bucket of bleach water (1 cup bleach, 3 gals. water) - over four hours is all that is necessary. Then they are rinsed off again with sprayer, inside and out. And then air dried. They continue to look brand new.

Flip inside out, into washing machine with bleach extra rinse cycle and sun dry, works for me!
