Just wondering what everyone is doing to keep the po4 low and stable? I been running GFO but was maybe wanting to try something else and see what else I could do.....

Used GFO on my old tank feel it was a bit of a pain, definitely never solved for pegging it. Using diluted lanthium chloride (Phosphate-E) today via a doser directly into my skimmer.

This is a pretty good thread, I forget where in here they start using LC with great results.

Nice thanks I'll look in to that thread.

After using lanthium and GFO. I gotta say, I prefer the GFO. Dosing lanthium everyday versus changing media once every week or so. I prefer less daily tasks and more weekly tasks. That way I can set and forget my tank all week and just do chores on my weekend.

Have you tried a refugium with chaeto? Keeps my nitrates and phosphates very low. Have never run anything else to control phosphates. Here is an example of my homemade refugium with Home Depot plastic light with LED grow light. PO4 at .01 and NO3 at 2. Cheap, easy to setup, and very effective.

I am running a lot of Dragons Breath Macro Algae in a refugium and doing just fine. Im a bit of an old school reefer though and over the years I have found that my best success has been with tanks that more closely replicated what Mother Nature does in the wild. Results have been a little slow in coming compared to a magic resin in my filtration, but have been very reliable and kept my tanks much more stable. I do run larger sumps with much larger refugium spaces in them and I do have a little lower flow in my sumps than most would have to allow the Macro to up take nutrients. YMMV...

I dont even check my phosphates... nitrates i try to keep at 40ppm or lower. But generally they are 20-40ppm.

For nitrates i have two gallons of seachen denitrate running at 30-40gph to help lower nitrates. With 5 large tangs and 12 other fish in a 135 gallin tank i have to feed ALOT so nitrates can go high fast if i dont have denitrate. And do 50% water changes at least every 3 weeks.

But ya phosphates.. i havent checked in years. I cant grow hair algae anywhrre in my tabk.. not with 5 tangs and a foxface.. they eat it. They even eat it on my hang on back filters waterfall outlets. I believe its better to have fish and cleanup crew eat algae. Than to chase numbers.

Remember corals have algae in them... they need it to grow.
