I like the Marineland Visi-Therms and have never had one fail since their introduction roughly 20 years ago (I've not had one in continuous operation that long but did for have one for 11 years). This isnt to say they cant or wont fail! I stopped submerging the heaters and believe this adds a level security from failure (keeping power out of the water as much as possible).

I agree with this I just hate that silver stuff that flakes off of them into the tank/sump/drum.

2 Eheim Jagers. I replace every 2 years as well.

+1 on Cobalt neotherms, I have them on all the qt, observation tanks and in the containers I use for ttm and have been rock solid. Just moved my kid's turtle tank from a zoomed heater to neotherm.

Unfortunately, they don't do higher wattage so for my larger tanks I do finnex titanium without thermostats built in as they all seemed to always read way high (guessing that as built in they were right in the end of the heater).

Instead I have them on a external temp controller (inkbird/bayite) and then that is plugged into Apex outlet for redundant control. I set controller to 78 +/- .1 and then Apex code to turn it off if it's temp goes over 79. That would stop runaway heating

If you are living in the countryside and having the powerline on posts I dont recommend electronic thermostates because they are much more sensitive to flashes or thunderstorm.
If your power line is in the ground electronic thermostates are the best.
To my customers I always recommend 2 smaller Eheim Jäger. If one is hooked up it will not cook the tank if it is small enough.

Eheim and cobalt. Have been using Eheim for 20 years. I replace every few years just in case. Have only used cobalt for 3 years but I like them! I run them on a pinpoint temp controller. I also agree with running 2 smaller heaters rather than on big one!

Of all the tank crashes I read here several are blamed on a glass heater that broke. I see Jager advertises its unbreakable but why chance it when safer options are available, and by safer I mean titanium will also ground your tank, Just be sure it has the ground prong and the controller is grounded too.
also why buy a heater with a thermostat when you will use a controller anyhow...... I also have a neo-therm from my first tank (AIO) and it was the perfect choice for that tank....
