What's going on with my acan?

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what is going on with my acan. I did a water change today and it started to close up, it is now very closed with a film on it. My other corals are not showing signs of stress, including across. I tested my water and it reads ammonia-0, nitrites-0, nitrates-2, ph-8.2, all-10. Is it the high alk? but wouldn't my acros be distressed first? Two of my three acan frags are closed while the other is fine. They have been in the tank for three weeks. I appreciate the help and advice.

Its hard to say, the pics a re a little blurry but they could just be stressed. Can you describe what the film looks like? Is it fluffy, does it look like a bunch of strings, is it fuzzy? The more you can tell us the better.

Yes, it is rather hard to tell by the pics. Sometimes there is no real reason other than it wanted to. Acans can get stress by temperature changes from the water, even just 1-2 deg can cause them to close up, also salinity or Ph changes. All of this can happen rapidly with a water change. I wouldn't be too concerned right away. I would give it a day or two.

Oh and if the strings are white or clearish then it is stress. If they are dark brown/black it could be waste. If it continues it could be bacterial infection.

Was the water that you mixed temp matched to the tank? If not its highly possible that there was a temp swing it wasn't happy with. Keep an eye on it, if it was that it will return to normal in a day or 2

Should I leave the film on it or shake it off as it develops?

I wouldn't shake it but use a baster to keep it cleaned up. Don't blast it ! Shaking will add stress

Ya that would work. Blow just enough water on it keep it clean so waste exchange isn't compromised
