I'd say this started in the last 24 hours. It's as if the skin is peeling off. All perimeters in great shape and so are my other corals.

Say good bye my friend... I think he is going to keep shedding away. I had a piece look like that a day after I got it from my LFS and didn't last 2 days.
When did you get it?

It's been in the tank 3-4 weeks. Any idea if they come back from this?

Just trash it, trust me the faster you do that the faster you'll forget about it. It is formally known as RTN , it can happen from the light shock, po4 shock, 0 po4 actually meaning 0, all swing, low flow, pest, fish picking at it accidental damage, other causes could be you looking at your acros wrong, or they get upset at you, or if they somehow get scared, or your dog barks too low. Or the most likely case is when the acro knows that it is your favorite piece in the tank, it RTNs just to mess with you.

It's pretty far gone. If you can clip a live piece do so. Check for ph swings.
But yes. It could be cumulative damage and is just now giving up the ghost.

It is definitely RTN (rapid tissue necrosis). The final outcome is not likely to be good, but I would still frag the top to try to save a piece of it at least. As others said, there are a lot of potential causes.

Don't trash it yet. I had a frag start to rtn on me when I did a tank upgrade. 99% of the frag was lost but a few polyps held on for dear life. The coral stabilized and actually started to grow again over the dead skeleton.

No way to save my friend. Like posted, maybe you can clip the tip but may not work. It's an internal thing and if you try to dip it or medicate it, it will just be put out of its misery...

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input. I'll try to frag a healthy looking tip just for the hell of it
