Whats going on with my clam?

He has been happy for the past 2 months I've had him and since last friday he's looking worse and worse what can I do to help it?
29 gal tank
Coral composion lighting whit peaks at 20% for 1 hr
Blue peaks at 60%
Paramaters
Salt 1.025
0 ammonia
Ph 8.2
Cal 440 ppm
Mag is 1400 ppm
0 nitrite
0 nitrate
I have a second clam and he is doing just fine tho

I'm sorry, but that is pretty advanced gaping and I have never heard of a clam coming back from it. I expect it will be polluting the tank pretty soon if you don't take it out.

dang thats a expensive monday. Guess ill cut the hairy dhroom off of it and kerp the shell . One of my peppermint shrimp was inside of his mouth this morning at 530 is that another sign. Hes done

Yea that clam is toast, Sorry to say. Clams are weird, they will appear fine for a couple months and then out of the blue die overnight.

mine just died 3 days ago after one and half year having him . its funny cuz i have one right next to it doing great .

My guess is he didn't like the corals growing on him and very near him.

Sorry to tell you that, but at that point it isn't going to recover.

I would say your lighting peaks are too low. 20% of whites for 1 hour, is pretty much nothing. In general, Tridacnas require a lot of lighting.
Just to give you an example, my LEDS peak at 100% for about 9hs.

I don't buy Maxima clams anymore. I've lost two and I gave up. I think most of us try to keep our tanks too clean and as filter feeders, these clams especially need something to eat. A LFS manager told me once that he used to put his maxima in a tupperware with a crap ton of phytoplankton in it to feed cause his tank was too clean. I feed VERY heavy and my Dursa clam is very happy and very large. I think your clam is starving to death. Just my opinion though.

Wow 100 percent is that white or both white and blue? I kept lighting low because I had algea problems but I fixed my flow problems could probably ramp my whites up a little more?
Its a coral composition light 14 inches above the water what would you recommend? It's a programmable with 6 settings for white blue and moon

I don't know about that light but 14" about water and only at 20% is low. Especially since the clam was at the bottom

Led light and tank is about 18 inch deep
The clam is gone now it had Anniston the side of his meat other than the normal 2 holes wouldn't close up or anything

I keep all colours at 100% to maximise growth, when I am not home and the settings that pleases my eyes, when I am home.
If you have to tune it for your livestock, but anything below 65% is very uncommon.

If you are still having algae problems, keep your focus on solving it. Reducing light isn't a long term solution.
GFO and chaeto are potential solutions...
Also, in your case I wouldn't consider buying any more clams or light demanding corals, until it is solved.
Finally, bump that light up before you other clam starts perishing.

Thanks should I step it to 40 percent for a couple of days then to like 65 percent the to 100%
