What's Going on With MY LPS!!!!

Having an issue with Frogspawn and Torch corals where their mouth turns inside out and then the tissue melts away from the skeleton. These corals have been established for about 6 months with no issue. Now all of a sudden, this is happening to every frogspawn and torch. All water parameters are inline. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to stop this from continuing to spread would be appreciated.

How stable has your temperature remained as summer heats up? Keep a close eye on that for a few days through the entire photoperiod, if possible.

Thanks for your response. Temperature remains fairly steady between 76-80.

Looks like death to me. I had a torch kinda do the same thing once. Didn't make it

They are definitely dying. It's happened to 2 others already. Trying to figure out why???

4* is a big enough temp swing for this to happen. I would suggest trying to keep the temp more stable by keeping it between 79-80 by slowly increasing it over time. Just my .02.

have you added/changed out any filter media that would fit within the timeline? specifically media to address p04 or ammonia?

Yes... Changed out phosphate media as my phosphates were going up. I'm using the high capacity media from BRS.

Do you have hermit crabs or urchins? We had minor algae in our tank and kicked up our efforts to get rid of it. Once it was gone the urchins and hermit crabs took out all of my torches and frogspawn. I thought it was just the urchins after I caught them mowing down one and took them out. Still had the issue, where i would find clumps hanging like that in the morning after they were fine the night before and finally caught a hermit crab eating them. They are now mostly gone from the tank and when I see the couple tiny ones that are left I pull them out. =/

I am not sure if this is your issue, but definitely ended up being mine. Has anyone else had this happen?

Anything else change? Sometimes the dust from certain media will cause that. Do you notice all kinda of white stringy things near the mouth? It sometimes looks like spiderweb covered in mucous lol...

Take out the media, do a small wc, and frag off dead parts if possible see of it helps...

In IMHO I think temp swing is your culprit as long as your other parameters are in line and most importantly, STABLE. I feel any stability issue usually is the first cause of melt/death. And yes, 4* is a large swing to happen on the normal daily basis. You could try to get some fans to blow down at the water. You might try to coral dip it to stop the death also once your issue is corrected.
