Hi guys ,
So my tank has been running for 6 months now, I did a 3 months cycle before adding any fish and 2 months ago I added some sps, zoas and acans they all looked good even started to notice some grow on my sps but about a week ago things went bad :( all my sps died and my zoas just close acans look good, My system is about 50 gallons I have a carbon reactor and skimmer that does a really good job I'm running zeovit so no GFO Or any phosphate media I do a 15 gallon water change every week I only had algae problem the first 2 months but about 2 days ago I noticed some weird slime looking thing on my rocks it looks like dust and hairs I did a 10 gallon water change and replaced my carbon but I'm scared to add more sps I almost feel like giving up because I spend so much time and money and it's really sad loosing them all :(

What kind of carbon are you running? Make sure its high quality stuff, not the MarineLand petco carbon. The slime and hair you're describing could be cyano.

^^You need to figure out what this is, because odds are it will be coming back. As mentioned above it could be cyanobacteria; however dinoflagellates are another possibility and that is a much more serious problem. You should notice little bubbles on the end (looks like snot) if it's dinos.

I agree. It sounds like cyano. I know this hobby can get frustrating sometimes but don't give up! So many times I've felt like giving up but I continue on and I'm glad I have.

Are you testing for your trace elements I have had a friend of mine crash all of his SPS corals by not testing trace elements and dosing the red sea a,b,c,and d coral colors. He ended up raising the levels of Fe and potassium way to high.
