Whats good for skimmers these days?

Starting a 90g reef tank. Havent used a skimmer in over 10 years, but I wanna get this tank right. Whats considered good now?

If you hate noise like myself you should go with a DC skimmer, I like my Deltec the emergency overflow system with water level indicator is a life saver the only problem I have with the Deltec and it's a dumb problem is the build quality feels lacklustre

I’m sure there will be a variety of answers. However, it will really come down to how much you want to spend. A good skimmer that won’t break the bank is a Bubble Magus. I believe a an Elite 5 will do well on a 90g.

I agree with above that it depends upon how much you want to spend. If budget is no object then I’d recommend Bubble King. If budget is a factor then I haven’t owned one in years but I would get a Reef Octopus.

Noise level is important. Im not gonna spend a grand on a skimmer but budget isn’t really my concern. Seems like there’s quite a few decent options in the 500 range from all the recommendations so far.
As for the water level in the sump, I’ll measure that and get back to you

I have a bubble magus curve 5 elite and have no problems, it’s on a 100G system

(100 gallon system with a fuge too)

I have the Tunze 9410 Dc. Silent and skim great. Also set and forget. No adjustment needed.

Love my curve 5 elite on an 85G system. Not too big, and not too small with a decent(13 fish) bioload.

Cant go wrong with a sicce pump either.

Have had most of the most expensive skimmers in the past, none of which didn't require regular adjustment etc. Like everything else a lot of the brands seem to think that the more complicated they make it the more attractive it will be to reefers. I went with Life Reef 3 years ago. Jeff's follows the KISS philosophy. The only bad thing is that because it is a set it and forget it piece of equipment, I forget it is there. Also you have to be prepared to get in line.
